The Boy Scouts of Troop 15 SNI-Seicho-No-Ie, Truth of Life Church in Kealakekua went to the Captain Cook fire station with their families Tuesday to fulfill a requirement of the fire safety merit badge.

The boys, led by Colin Byars, Brian Kunitomo and the crew on duty, toured the facility. They learned that firefighters have to be “physically strong and mentally awake” as stated in the Boy Scout Oath. They also learned how math and science play a role in firefighting.

The Boy Scouts learned about the equipment carried on the fire engine, ambulance and brush fire vehicles.
